Work
Subject matter can vary from natural forms, still life, pattern and print but predominantly figure and portrait. I love to work large scale and continuously endeavour to capture the figure in movement, creating power, drama and impact in a pose. I apply the same approach with large scale botanical studies, where I see similarities in the lines, shapes and structure of organic forms and the figure. I am fascinated in capturing these twists and turns and how they change over time from bud to withered form.I explore contrasts in my work - this may be the solid structure of a pose alongside freer painterly handling in other areas. I am fascinated with print and pattern, particularly vintage colour schemes and motifs, and use these as inspiration. I employ a range of printing techniques and often combine these with drawn and painted elements. Again, contrasts between print, detail and more free abstract treatments can be evident.
